I actually saw an espada last week. Sorry SR20.

I assume that’s the proud owner standing next to it. It’s a good looking car.

I’m glad a couple of you ID’d the car. I didn’t know what it was. I knew the plane, though....

The shape of the Espada has an interesting design story. It started life as a one-off, also by Bertone (more specifically, Gandini) based on a Jaguar E-Type, the “Pirana” (most likely a misspelling of Spanish p i r a ñ a or of Portuguese p i r a n h a ).

M o r e o r l e s s a t h e s a m e time G a n d i n i was a l s o working o n the Lamborghini Marzal , a conceptually similar ( b u t visually different ) dream car .

I can’t find a bigger picture than the one I posted. And I can’t read it either. I also can’t find a definitive list of Qantas 74s by name. There is a list of 737s and 707s on Google, and it just says “and others” and says that the naming convention continued to the 747. I’ll try and look more later.

I found a list of 743s, but I bet this one is older than that.

I think I found it. VB-EHG, 747-238B   City of Hobart . That looks closest to the blurry photo. Entered service in 1974. Not sure about the year of the Espada, but I think I saw it labeled as a 1972 somewhere. So that just about fits. For a while, Qantas flew only 742s.
